Why We Built CantoBible
CantoBible is a personal, non-commercial project from a gweilocal in Hong Kong — made out of love for this city, the Cantonese language, and the Word of God. It was coded with the help of ChatGPT and other AI systems, and inspired by Jesus' call to share the Good News and a personal desire to learn more Cantonese.
We started learning Cantonese and quickly discovered a gap: there was no complete Bible available in fully Romanized Cantonese. So we began creating our own resources — using both Yale and Jyutping — and built CantoBible to help others like us.
Our goal is to serve people who want to read the Bible in Cantonese but can’t read Chinese characters — including learners, diaspora communities, and those navigating faith across cultures or literacy barriers.
Whether you’re a Cantonese learner, a missionary, or someone reconnecting with your heritage, CantoBible helps bridge the gap with accessible, side-by-side Scripture.
